Five performers dance unapologetically, shedding light on the value of dance while testing the limits of the performance condition itself and the system within which it operates. They move, asking: “How much is my dance worth?”, at a time of global crisis, when dancing, and to an extent “investing” in the arts, seems like a paradoxical choice.
Their dance on stage is not another “Rite οf Spring”, in which one must be sacrificed for the sake of the others, nor another “Dance of Zalongo”, a tragic act of despair and non-choice. Their dance is a dynamic act of political appearing, stating and claiming, as political and social bodies that cannot afford anymore to be invisible, beyond the boundaries of the stage.
In the capitalist system, the value of dance is systematically undervalued precisely because its ephemeral and non-commodifiable nature does not fit directly into the logic of production and profit. Intending to provoke the slogan “time is money” and to claim the value of corporeal and mental labour, the performance responds, through the title - statement, that our dance is worth “All of (y)our time”.
A performance with immediacy, honesty, humour, full of love for dance, but also questions about how we can continue to dance in precarious times.
*After the performance on Saturday, the audience is invited to stay for a 30-minute After Talk with the artistic team, moderated by the art theorist and curator Evagoras Vanezis.
